Rev. Father Joseph-Héctor Abouid was born in 1986 in the City of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to parents who originated from the small town of Beit-Jala,Palestine (Issa and Lidia Abouid) -the last of 5 children (two girls and three boys). After just a few months of being born, Father's family moved to the Central American country of Honduras, where he grew up in the city of San Pedro Sula, serving the altar of the Antiochian Orthodox Church St. John the Baptist since a young age, aiding the V. Rev. Fr. Bulos E. Moussa (currently serving St. John Antiochian Orthodox Church in Levittown, NY). Father attended an English educated school, the International School of San Pedro Sula (or E.I.S. in Spanish) where he graduated from primary, middle, and high school. After graduating in 2005, at the age of 18 and without knowing one word of Arabic, he was sent by His Eminence Metropolitan ANTONIOS (Chedraoui), Metropolitan of Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, and the Caribbean Islands, to study Theology to the Faculty of Theology St. John of Damascus of the University of Balamand. There, he accomplished his first year of Arabic studies, and then began his Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) and a Minor in Psychology; degrees which he obtained four years later, after graduating in 2010. It is also the place where he met who later on was to become his wife, Carol El Ojeil. He then moved back to Honduras for one year to serve his parish and the parish’s school as well. Then, in 2011, he once again embarked on another trip back to Lebanon to start his Masters in Theology (M.Th.) degree-having successfully defended his Thesis Dissertation on May 07, 2018, at the Balamand, receving a distinction of cum laude.
In summer of 2013, Father got married to Carol on the 18th of August in the Patriarchal Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand. 3 months later, on the 6th of October of that same year, he was ordained a Deacon in the same place by His Eminence Metr. ANTONIOS (Chedraoui), and was commissioned to serve the diocese of Venezuela and the Caribbean Islands, under His Grace Bishop Ignatios Samaan. After a few months, in March of 2014, Father and his wife moved to Honduras where he served his parish for one year. On the 23rd of April of 2015, Father and his wife Carol both moved to Chicago, where he was assigned to the parish of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero, Illinois, under the V. Rev. Archpriest Fr. Nicholas Dahdal, Economos. By the grace of God and through the laying on of hands of His Grace Bishop ANOTHONY, Father Joseph was ordained into Priesthood on Sunday June 12th, 2016 and served as Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor there. He was also appointed by His Grace Bishop ANTHONY as assistant Spiritual Advisor to the Young Adult Ministry (YAM) of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest, and on 2017 appointed as Spiritual Advisor. On July 1st, 2017, Fr. Joseph-Héctor was assigned by His Eminence Metr. JOSEPH as Head Pastor (Proistamenos) of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in El Paso, Texas, having celebrated his first Divine Liturgy as Pastor on the 16th of July. That same year, Fr. Joseph and Kh. Carol were blessed with the birth of a beautiful baby, Aidan Emmanuel Abouid, on September 29. Aidan is the first son of an Orthodox Priest to have ever been born in the borderland.
