ST SPYRIDON PROJECT
We are blessed to prepare a sacred iconographic project in honor of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, the humble shepherd of Cyprus, great bishop of Trimythous, and glorious defender of the Orthodox faith.
His icon powerfully proclaims his life and witness: the woven shepherd’s cap recalls his humble beginnings, the Gospel Book signifies his episcopal teaching, and the flame, clay, and water in his hand recall the holy miracle at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, where he defended the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
According to the sacred tradition, Saint Spyridon took a piece of clay or a brick in his hand and, by divine grace, it was shown to contain three elements: fire rose upward, water flowed downward, and dust remained in his hand. In this wondrous sign, the saint taught that just as the brick was one, yet revealed three elements, so also the One God is glorified in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
This miracle is beautifully and theologically represented in his icon, and it continues to strengthen the faith of the Orthodox faithful to this day.
Saint Spyridon is also lovingly known as the “walking saint,” because the slippers placed on his holy relics are said to wear out each year, as though he continues his pastoral journey to help those who call upon him in faith.
These sacred slippers, which are replaced annually, have themselves become a sign of his continuing intercession and living presence among the faithful.
We are especially blessed that our church possesses a holy relic connected with these blessed slippers, and we now seek to integrate this relic reverently and beautifully into the iconographic setting dedicated to the saint.
To complete this sacred space, we are raising $6,900 for a hand-written icon of Saint Spyridon, two candelabras, and the proper devotional arrangement that will honor both the icon and the holy relic behind the baptismal font.
Fr. Fadi will personally donate the reliquary containing his relics, so that this offering may become a lasting source of prayer, consolation, and blessing for the parish and all who venerate the saint.

Icons are representations of the Heavenly. They are expressions of Orthodox faith, teaching, and worship. The Orthodox Church uses icons to assist in worship. Icons are a 'window to heaven' and they help us to focus on the divine things.
Fr. Fadi is overseeing the Icon Project to have icons written on the bare interior walls in the church. This project continues beautifying the Church for the glory of God.
